Headache, Causes and Treatment

A headache can be a sign of  stress or tension. It can also result from a medical disorder, for example, Migraine, depression, anxiety, stress, high blood pressure, etc.
It is almost impossible to work or do anything while having a headache.
Headache is a common problem but it can lead to some major health problems. Most people experience headache at some point in their life. It can affect anyone. A headache can occur in any part of the head, on one side or on both sides of the head.

Causes and Types Of Headache

Tension Type Headache (TTH)

Tension headache, which is also known as tension type headache is the most common type of primary headache. Tension headache can be either episodic or chronic. Episodic means, having a headache for hours and hours and even for days. And chronic headache occur for 10 to 15 days, or even for months.
When people suffer from tension type headache, they can feel :
  • A constant pain on both sides of the head.
  • They feel as if they have a tight band around their head.
  • Non stop pain or feeling tightness on head.
Migraines

A migraine headache occurs only on one side of the head. It is accompanied by nausea, vomiting.Migraine is the second most common form of primary headache and cal also affect the life of a person suffering from migraine. It can last for few hours or for days. There are a number of factors that can trigger migraine :
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Loud noises
  • Medicines
  • Very strong smells
  • Lack of sleep
  • Too much sleep
  • Skipped meals
  • Tension
Cluster Headaches

Cluster headaches last between 15 to 30 minutes or 15 minutes to 2 to 3 hours. This type of headache occurs suddenly, many times in a day. The pain which is caused by cluster headaches is :
  • Severe headache
  • Headache on the one side of the head
  • Sharp Headache
  • Burning sensation in head
  • Pain around your eyes
People can suffer from red eye or stuffy or runny nose in this condition.

Treatment

I am going to tell you very easy and effective ways to treat a headache at home.

1. Drink Water

Dehydration is the most common cause of tension headaches or migraines. Drink a plenty of water everyday to keep yourself  hydrated. Drinking enough water every single day is very very important to prevent headache. Headache can be caused by dehydration sometimes, and if you consume a lot of water everyday, you can get rid of a headache easily at home.

2. Cold Pack

If you are suffering from headache or a migraine, you should place a cold pack, ice pack or some ice cubes wrapped in a cloth on your head. do this for 10 to 15 minutes twice a day.
Doing this will lessen your pain.You can also take a cold shower to treat your pain and feel relaxed.

3. Use A Heat Pad Or Hot Compression

If you have a tension headache, place a heat pad or hot water bottle wrapped in a towel, on your neck or the back side of your head. Take a hot shower to feel more relaxed.

4. Pressure On Your Head

If you are a female and your ponytail is too tight or if you are a male wearing a cap or headband, you you should take off your cap or your headband, and keep your hair open. Keeping your head free from such thing will make you feel relaxed and your pain will disappear slowly.

5. Zandu Balm

Apply zandu balm or any other balm which can relieve your headache, Apply bit on your forehead gently with your hand twice or thrice a day. This will surely help you a lot and your headache will disappear in few minutes or hours. You can buy zandu balm from your nearest medical store.

6. Dim The Lights

Bright light, from your mobile phone, computer screen can also cause normal or migraine headaches.
Avoid using your phone or your computer too much or you can simply add anti-glare screens to ypur computer, use night mode apps for your mobile phone and daylight spectrum fluorescent bulbs in your room.

7. Drink Tea Or Black Coffee

Drinking tea or black coffee can help you in disappearing your headache. Just don`t drink too much caffeine. Just a one cup of coffee or tea will help you.
