How To Relieve Swollen and Painful Feet and Ankles At Home

You can get rid of swollen feet and ankles at home very easily, if you take some precautions.
Here are some tips and ideas that can help you.

ELEVATION

Lying on the floor or bed with your legs raised and pressed against the wall will help you in getting rid of swollen feet or ankles.
Or just put your legs up on some pillows while lying straight on your bed or on the floor to get an instant relief.

COMPRESSION STOCKINGS

Compression stockings or socks gives you relief in pain and prevent fluid collection in your legs, feet and ankles.
 You can get them at your nearest drug store or pharmacy, be sure you select a pair that isn`t too tight or too loose for your feet or legs. They come in different sizes, you can select them according to your size.
They will surely help you a lot.

WEIGHT LOSS

You should try to lose weight if you are overweight.
 Losing weight can reduce swelling from your feet or ankles and it is also good for your over all body and health.

EXERCISE

You should avoid sitting or standing at the same place for a long time, doing such thing can increase your swelling. Give rest to your body and also do some light exercise like moving your knees and extend your ankles for relief.

Swimming is the best thing or exercise to stay healthy, it is good for your overall health.

 DRINK 8 TO 10 GLASSES OF WATER PER DAY

Getting enough fluids helps reduce swelling. Drink a lot of water every day to stay hydrated.

DIETARY CHANGES

Reducing your sodium intake can help decreasing swelling in your body, feet, ankles or legs.
 Try to take less salt when you are having your meals and never eat raw salt. I t is very bad and harmful for your health.

You can make some changes to your everyday life to help reduce swelling :

  • Walk for 15 to 20 minutes everyday.
  • Drink 8 glasses of water everyday.
  • Limit your salt intake.
  • Elevate your feet or legs while lying straight.

You should see your doctor if you see no improvement in your problem. Give at least two days to yourself and if you see no improvement even after two days, you should immediately visit your doctor.
