Here are 6 common symptoms of Heart Attack in Women
1. Chest Pain Or Discomfort
The most common heart attack symptom is Chest Pain but some women experience it differently than men.
You may experience a squeezing or fullness and the pain can be on the left or the right side of your chest, or in the middle of your chest.
"It feels like a vise being tightened". During a heart attack, says cardiologist Rita Redberg, MD, director of Women’s Cardiovascular Services at the University of California, San Francisco.
2. Pain In Your Arms, Neck, Back or Jaw
You should know that this type of pain is more common in women than in men.
The pain can be slow, fast or sudden in such parts of your body. If you are sleeping this pain may wake you up.
You should report any "non typical or unexplained" symptoms in any part of your body above your waist, to your doctor. Says cardiologist C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, director of the Barbra Streisand Women's Heart Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
3. Shortness of breath, Nausea, or Lightheadedness
Trouble breathing or shortness of breath for no reason can be a sign of a Heart Attack.
4. Stomach Pain
Sometimes people mistake stomach pain that signals a heart attack with Heartburn, Flu, or a Stomach ulcer.
Many times, women may experience severe abdominal pressure that feels like an elephant or something heavy sitting on your Stomach, says cardiologist Nieca Goldberg, MD, medical director of the Joan H. Tisch Center for Women’s Health at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York.
5. Fatigue
Some women who experience heart attack feel very tired even if they've been sitting still for a while or haven't moved much.
6. Sweating
Excessive sweating without a normal cause is another common heart attack symptom in women.
Feeling col and clammy can also be an indicator of heart problems.
