Over Use Of Knee

If you play a running sport, or jump or run too fast and for too long, you might be at risk for overuse of the knee [ Patella Tendon ] You can suffer from an inflammation of the tendon. This problem can occur to both youngsters and old aged people.

Standing For Too Long

Standing for too long at one place can cause discomfort and stiffness in knees. If you keep standing for too long, you put stress on  the knees, and when you move or sit after standing for a long time, you may experience stiff and painful knees and discomfort. Therefore standing for a long time of  a period is not good for your knees.

Overweight

Being overweight is worse than being underweight. Too much weight is also one of the main causes of knee and joint related problems. People with heavy weight suffer more with knees or any other health related problem than others who are underweight or with normal body weight.

 If you are carrying too much weight on your body, you can damage your knees because when we stand or walk, our upper body weight comes on our knees, thighs and feet, which can damage the cartilage of the knees or cause severe knee injury which can even lead to the surgery.

being overweight is not good and it can cause many health problems. So, if  you are overweight and you  have knee or any other health related problem, You should lose weight.

Arthritis

Arthritis is a very common disease, It is an informal way of referring  to joint  pain or joint related problems. People of any age, Children, Youngsters and Old aged people can suffer from arthritis. Women and older people suffer more from arthritis.

Common arthritis joint symptoms may include, Swelling, Pain, Stiffness in knees, Moderate or Severe pain in knees. Arthritis can be healed with proper medication, Balanced diet, and Exercise if its new and minor. But if your arthritis is at its last stage, you doctor can ask you to go for knee replacement surgery.

Knee pain is common in older people.

One main reason for  knee pain  for a long time is a type of arthritis called  as osteoarthritis. It is caused by wear and tear in the joint. It affects older people over 50 to  60 years. our knee bends and straightens easily  because of the cartilage that covers the ends of our  bones in the healthy joint.

About 14 percent of Americans aged 24 and above suffer from Osteoarthritis, This a common type of arthritis in which the cartilage that protects the bones in our knees breaks down and causes knee pain. 
 After the age of 50 to 60 the number rises nearly to 35 to 40 percent. Experts says that in most of the cases, knee pain in older people occurs due to Osteoarthritis.

How To Treat Knee Pain At Home

Mild and  sometimes even Moderate knee pain can be treated at home. Whether it is due to sprain, strain, or arthritis at minor stage. But before you start to treat your knee pain at home, Always remember that you should seek a medical help if you have a severe pain in your knees caused by an injury. If you feel discomfort or knee pain for  more than 5 days, you should see a Doctor.

Try RICE Therapy

R - Rest
I - Ice
C - Compression
E - Elevation

If you have twisted your leg, knee, fell down, have swelling and if it it is an acute injury.
' RICE' therapy can heal your pain.
Apply cold pack, ice bag or ice on the knee or the affected area. Ice reduces swelling and pain , Use ice if it is an acute injury. Within 24 hours you can apply ice on your knee to heal swelling and pain.
Take proper rest at home. Avoid walking for some time.
Elevate your legs for proper blood circulation, Elevating your legs also reduces your swelling in your knee.

Knee Support

You can use knee support. Wearing knee support gives compression to your knees and helps in healing. Reduces pain and give proper support to your knees.

Exercise

Daily exercise can help people reduce pain and keep their knees healthy. But you should know how to do exercise properly, without damaging your tissues or giving strain to you leg muscles.

Normal Weight

Keep your weight normal if you want to avoid unnecessary knee pain and join related problems.

Note ; Avoid walking if you are suffering from knee pain.
 Take Rest as much as you  can if you have moderate knee pain or swelling.

Always remember that we use cold, ice therapy only if it is an acute injury. Acute injury is a new injury, where between 24 hours of an injury , pain or swelling, you can apply ice therapy to numb and relax your pain.

And if it is a Chronic injury. Which means if you are suffering from pain from more than 48 hours, You can use hot bag or heat belt to relieve your pain.
